Editor,
I am writing about James Stambaugh's "No gas for Iraq War critics," which appeared in Monday's Daily Lobo. I am not writing about whether I agree with his views; I would just like to point out some mistakes that I would not expect from a columnist.
It is unfortunate that he uses Turkey's name in his "What you get if you conquer this country" scenario, since Turkey has been an ally of the United States and still is.
I would expect him to know that Turkey has been a key member of NATO since its early foundation, and has been a strategic ally of America in Eastern Europe and the Middle East, despite not allowing United States troops to pass through its soil for the invasion of Iraq.
And another correction: Falafel is not a Turkish dish. It is Lebanese. It might be funny to point out this detail, but this little mistake shows that he is confusing Turkey with the Arabic nations in the Middle East, and I think it is my duty to point that out.
