Letter: Students should question professor bias claims

Editor,

Monday's Daily Lobo ran a letter titled "Freshmen face liberal bias in UNM classrooms" by Darren Wood, a UNM alumnus. As Wood would have freshman believe, factions are conspiring right now on what to call conservatives. What will it be this semester, Nazis, racists or bigots?

To accuse professors of leveling such slanderous language on students should be taken seriously, unless of course the person being called a Nazi has stated their ideology as "the only good Jew is a dead Jew." Even though I am obviously a liberal, I would not tolerate a professor calling anyone a Nazi, and would defend that person unless the previous sentence applied to them.

It seems rather convenient that Wood is no longer a student here and preferred to keep the names of such professors anonymous. One has to wonder if what Wood states happened, if at all, because he levels no concrete charges. Having checked the Students for Academic Freedom Web site - founded by David Horowitz, a conservative activist - I only found two charges leveled against professors at UNM.

Surprise - both of them were anonymous.
