Letter: Hurricane was God's way of saying 'Stop whining'

Editor,

I am writing in response to Will Veeder's letter in Monday's Daily Lobo about Bush and his administration's reaction to Hurricane Katrina.

First of all, the fact that New Orleans did not receive any federal funding to repair the levees is irrelevant.

They did not have plans to rebuild or repair the levees, despite warnings from people, including the president, telling the mayor of New Orleans to evacuate before the hurricane because of the flooding.

So New Orleans being ill-prepared for the Category 4 hurricane that hit has nothing to do with Bush's tax cut.

Even if New Orleans had received funding and had planned to rebuild their levees, the flooding would have still occurred.

As for Bush hiring his campaign adviser's roommate as the head of Federal Emergency Management Agency, I can only laugh at the Michael Moore-type conspiracy theory that such a thing would imply.

If there really were some plot for Bush to take over the world, wouldn't there be someone trying to stop him?

Yet, no one seems to mind at all, except for the liberals who would rather sit back and point fingers than do anything constructive.

So I say stop trying to blame everyone else and realize that this isn't Bush's latest failure but rather God's way of trying to tell Americans to stop whining and go help out those in need.
