Editor,
I'd like to inform Wesley Reed, the student quoted in the article "Students search for reason to vote" in Wednesday's Daily Lobo, that we should vote because we are students.
We should vote because we are citizens of the state of New Mexico and of the United States of America.
We should vote because this citizenship grants us the privilege to be able to do so.
Not only is it the responsibility of the candidate to inform the public of his or her politics, but it is the responsibility of the public to be informed and to participate in civic life. A person should know it is a hard-won privilege and a duty to cast a vote - without a candidate giving him or her Mardi Gras party favors and a concert in an attempt to persuade.
For the inquisitive and energetic student, there is a publication called the Voters' Guide published by the League of Women Voters that is extremely informative and might be helpful to a person who doesn't understand the importance of voting.
