Letter: Simplistic views typical of hate-filled Republicans

Editor,

This letter is a response to Rebekah Casey's ill-informed and rather naive letter from Monday's Daily Lobo. I feel the need to correct and expand on a few of the points Casey tried to make.

First, you state that President Bush is in office "because the majority of Americans voted for him to lead the country." I hate to burst your bubble, but the majority of Americans didn't even vote in the last election.

Secondly, you claim that Brian Fejer, whose letter you were responding to, is a self-pitying liberal, which is pathetic in itself, but this follows the logic of most of the Republicans I know who feel a need to put a label on everything. I understand that such labels are good fun for people who are incapable of critical thinking.

Third, you state that the "Bush Doctrine has delivered democracy to a dictatorship in the Middle East, and has neutralized a threat against America and others."

On this subject, I really have to ask: What planet are you living on? Your hypocritical rhetoric aside, Bush has delivered nothing but chaos and mayhem to the region, and even the State Department's statistics show that the war on terrorism has made the world a much more dangerous place, due to Bush's ill-advised and blatantly illegal war against Iraq, with terrorist acts increasing dramatically worldwide since 2001.

Casey goes on to say, "I'm sorry you are not willing to fight." Am I out of line to ask why you are not over there fighting right now if you feel so strongly about such a noble cause? It sure is easy to tell others to go die for your profoundly misguided ideals.

Casey's simplistic diatribe is exactly what I expect from the small-minded minority of the hate-filled, intolerant group who presently control the political agenda of this once-great nation.
