Weekend's work yields a loss, a win

Staff Report

The UNM women's soccer team snagged a 2-1 win in its last road game of the season against the Air Force Falcons in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Sunday.

The win gives the Lobos a 5-6-4 record overall and 2-3-1 in the Mountain West Conference. The Falcons dropped to 0-6 in the conference and 4-14-1 overall.

UNM junior defender Alanna Abeyta scored her first career goal for the Lobos off a rebound in the 43rd minute when midfielder Eryn Paetz's shot was deflected by the Falcons' defense and came back out to UNM forward Kristine Sweat. Sweat shot the ball again, but Air Force goalkeeper Erin Wallace made a diving save. Abeyta was right there to put the ball in the back of the net from 10 yards out.

UNM didn't score again until the 75th minute when junior midfielder Kellee Hafner put in another rebound from 20 yards out over Wallace's head.

It was Hafner's second goal of the season and third in her career.

Air Force got on the board in the 82nd minute off a free kick from Ashley Parker.

Friday was not all smiles for the Lobos, however, as they fell to the University of Wyoming 1-0 in double overtime.

Cowgirl forward Tamika Wilson scored in the 106th minute off a pass from Wyoming's other forward, Mercy Adetoye.

UNM out-shot the Cowgirls 18 to 12.
