Editor,
In his column in Tuesday's Daily Lobo, Andrew Price stated that Carthage lost the Second Punic War to Rome because the Carthaginian government had no stomach for the casualties and feared the power of a triumphant Hannibal.
This is either a grand display of ignorance or a wonderful example of twisting history to match one's political opinions.
The Carthaginian government was controlled by Hannibal's family, the Barcas, and inasmuch as most all of Hannibal's soldiers were Iberians and Gauls, I doubt Carthage was worried about casualties.
Americans' profound ignorance of history, even of 40 years ago, has contributed mightily to the incredible policy problems we have now, just as Price's ignorance has contributed to what have to be described as some silly opinions.
