Editor,
I was there Wednesday when the preachers took the pulpit and began their preaching - again.
I am a Christian and am open about my faith, but what I heard coming from the mouth of one of the preachers saddened and angered me. I, first of all, wish to tell the student body and faculty that this is not the correct representation of the Jesus of the Bible. Jesus did not call people stupid or call them dumb blondes. The disciples, when faced with tough questions, never ignored the questioner.
Instead, Jesus and the disciples always responded with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. One preacher in particular lacked all of these elements. The whole show completely lacked honest sincere discussion and instead fostered an atmosphere of anger and condemnation. I apologize to those insulted by the preacher, and tell you plainly this is not the Jesus I know.
What we need on campus is an open forum. We need the opportunity to hear experts in the various fields of religion, philosophy and science, and to ask our questions in a controlled environment that encourages academic discussion and tolerance.
The questions posed by many students Wednesday deserved an answer, not an insult. I will be in the SUB every Friday at noon for those interested in getting those questions answered without being assaulted. I will be located in the lower level right next to the stairs, wearing red.
