Letter: Troops shouldn't pull out until Iraq is secure, free

Editor,

With the U.S. military's death toll in Iraq rising to more than 2,000, I find myself reading articles stating we need to pull out and bring our troops home.

We need to remember these people out there have never known freedom - they have had a dictator running their government for years and years. We can't leave right now because the Iraqi police force is not strong enough to suppress outbursts of violence, and they are nowhere close to having a strong enough military to protect themselves.

We are there to help the Iraqi people get their feet back on the ground and to get their government back up and running, but these things take time and money.

As for the American soldiers being killed, we should remember that we are at war, and people do, in fact, die. If we are patient, things will pan out.
