Editor,
We all enjoy the uplift of a rant about personal responsibility, but Mario Hernandez would appear to have not read the newspapers very well in writing his letter in last Monday's Daily Lobo regarding John Hyde.
Nothing was more thoroughly documented than the fact that Hyde had been diagnosed with mental illness for a least a decade before those sad events, and that in the last days his family - and he himself - were desperately trying to get help.
Mental illness may sometimes be fabricated as a defense, but this case simply does not fit. A good rant wasted, alas.
