Letter: Media make soap opera of Cheney hunting mishap

Editor,

I have heard a lot of mudslinging about the vice president's recent hunting accident in which he accidentally shot a good friend in the face with birdshot. Remember that - birdshot.

Before I am labeled as being biased, I want you to know I am a staunch liberal and Democrat, so I'm on opposing sides with the president and vice president. However, I wanted to take the time to say that it was an accident - both men were careless, and as long as they've learned from it, there's no reason to treat them unlike any other careless hunters.

In the last two days I've heard people calling for the vice president to step down, and it's ridiculous. I've also listened to the referrals to the "buckshot" that hit the man. If he'd been hit in the face with buckshot, he'd be dead, end of story. He got hit with birdshot, he's going to make a full recovery, the vice president made a mistake, and it was an accident.

I do not often watch the news because it's all skewed, and you probably aren't getting the real story with the false facts being reported about this unfortunate accident.

So to all the reporters talking about the buckshot and how Cheney should step down: Give the public some credit. We're not stupid, and we would like to hear solid, truthful news, not soap opera dramas you're so fond of shoving down our throats. Don't you have a real story to chase?
