Staff Report
Even when one of its top players went down, the UNM women's basketball team proved it was still worthy of a top 25 ranking.
The No. 23 Lobos (20-7 overall, 10-4 Mountain West Conference) routed San Diego State University (3-22, 0-15) 75-48 Saturday in San Diego, after leading scorer Dionne Marsh left with an injury five minutes into the game.
Helping to fill the void of Marsh's absence was Julie Briody. The junior tied a career high with 20 points. Briody got off to a quick start, nailing her first three attempts from three-point land. Briody added five rebounds and was 9-of-9 from the free-throw line.
Senior Jana Francis also finished the game with double figures, scoring 15 points and adding four assists. Junior Katie Montgomery added 14 points and six rebounds, while senior Abbie Letz grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

Veronica Shaw was the only SDSU player to score in double figures and finished with 14 points. Shaw also led the Aztecs with seven rebounds and dished out three assists.
UNM had a fast start, jumping out to a 35-15 lead early. SDSU was never able to rally as the Lobos led 45-23 at halftime and led by as much as 33 in the second half.
The Lobos were hot from beyond the arc, hitting 48 percent of their three-pointers, compared to the 26 percent the Aztecs shot.
UNM also outplayed SDSU in the post and held a 39-28 rebounding advantage.
