the Runnin' Rebels in Las Vegas

on Thursday night. It was the seventh

loss in the past eight games

against UNLV in the Thomas and

Mack Center.

The Lobos went 16-4 in their

first 20 games.

With the loss, UNM dropped

into a tie for third place with the

University of Wyoming and Texas

Christian University in the Mountain

West Conference with only

one regular season game remaining

before the MWC Tournament.

Lobo sophomore Dionne Marsh

and junior Julie Briody both scored

13 points to lead UNM.

Sheena Moore dropped 15 points

on the Lobos for UNLV.

Marsh failed to start for only

the second time this season because

of a sprained left ankle she

suffered in the first five minutes

against San Diego State University

on Saturday. She ended up playing

30 minutes and also grabbed three

rebounds.

The Lobos went into halftime

down 35-25. The 10-point margin

was their largest since heading

into the locker room against the

University of Oklahoma on Dec. 10

down 44-22.

UNM was down by as many as

nine in the second half before coming

back to tie the game at 63 with

a minute left off of a three-point

shot by senior Judy Vogt.

UNLV had the last laugh, though,

when Sherry McCracklin grabbed

an offensive rebound and put it

back with 22 seconds left to give the

Rebels the go-ahead basket.

The Rebels were only the third

team all season to shoot better

than 50 percent from the floor

against the Lobos, making 29-of-

55 shots for 53 percent.

UNM made 5-of-10 free throws

for 50 percent, after coming into the

game averaging 75 percent on the

season and 78 percent in the MWC.

With the loss, the Lobos

dropped to 20-8 overall and 10-5

in conference.

The Rebels improved to 17-9 and

9-6, good enough for sixth place in

the MWC.
