Letter: Online registration not easily accessible to all

Editor,

Once again, UNM is implementing changes to make everything easier for the students, and the days of the paper class catalog are over.

To guarantee accuracy, the class catalog will now only be on the much-heralded Web site, my.unm.edu. That's great - if you have easy access to the Internet.

Not all of UNM's students are lucky enough to live on campus and have access to free Internet. We don't all have the option of using the computer pods for the length of time it will take us to figure out our class schedule.

Many students I have talked to are in this same situation. We take classes and work Monday through Friday, and some work on the weekends. When are we supposed to register?

Planning your classes can be complex as you progress through UNM's degree programs. It helps to have the course catalog in front of you while you plan, and a paper schedule is also useful to show your employer as you plan your schedule for the following semester.

If UNM insists on becoming high-tech, then how about using that extra tuition money that I'll be paying next semester to supply me with a free Internet connection?

No? Somehow, I didn't think so.
