Editor,
I'm finally convinced that women these days are nearly impossible to please. We can work all day, support our girlfriend financially and emotionally through her studies, watch the baby, do the dishes and generally bend over backward for her - but at the end of the day, the only thing she's thinking about is putting knives in the sink so we can cut ourselves just so she can make a point.
To say that men are generally incapable of listening is just as grossly ignorant and sexist as saying that women can't drive. Regardless of the sugary coating, that's a huge slap in the face to all the good boyfriends out there who do listen.
Guys aren't perfect and never will be, but we try our best for no reason more than keeping you girls happy. If all we hear about are the things we're doing wrong, well, nothing is more frustrating and disheartening than doing so much only to hear about the things we don't do.
Here's a hint for Lucinda Ulrich - take a little more time to thank your boyfriend for all the things he does right, and go out of your way to do little things in return. I have a funny feeling that his selective hearing will get a lot less selective.
But if you're looking for perfection in a guy, get ready to be living alone with cats in your old age.
