Editor,
George W. Bush and I both
were born in Texas. Quite possibly
that is the only thing we have
in common, except that I still, on
occasion, wear boots.

You see, I seek advice from as
many people with differing viewpoints
as possible before making
important decisions.
I carefully pay attention to
what happens when I act on a decision.
If all is going well, I 'stay
the course.' And, if all is not going
well, I repeat my decisionmaking
process to determine
what to do to remedy a situation
that is not going as I anticipated
it would.
I never swagger.
I leave the recognition of my
accomplishments to other people
by not boasting about them.
I never taunt those who have
perceptions of reality that are
different from mine, especially if
they have the inclination and ability
to do me or my country harm.
I strive to stay focused on what
is best for as many people as possible
at all times instead of what is
best for a particular group that is
part of my political base.
I strive to stay focused on what
is best for as many people as possible
at all times instead of saying
what I know a particular group favors
in an effort to gain the political
support of that group.
It appears that despite the fact
that George W. Bush and myself
both were born in Texas, we do not
have all that much in common.
