Editor,
Some people are blaming Hezbollah for the recent conflict in the Middle East because of its capture of two Israeli soldiers and refusal to release them. Other people are blaming Lebanon for that same conflict because it allowed Hezbollah to remain on its territory and become strong. Other people are blaming Iran and Syria because they supported Hezbollah with money and military weapons. Other people are blaming the United States because it provided aid to Israel.
I am going to take the risk of offering a different perspective. How about this: Was this a conflict between the current ideology in the United States and the ideology of Syria and Iran, with the victims being the citizens of Lebanon and Israel and the adherents to the ideology of Hezbollah?
Yes, the entire conflict could have been prevented if the world community had been willing to be aware of the growing strength of Hezbollah and its clearly visible ideology - which includes the destruction of Israel - and taken action several years ago to prevent Hezbollah from becoming a threat to anyone.
Maybe the world community has learned a lesson from this tragic and avoidable conflict that will result in action being taken in a timely manner to avoid repeated occurrences of this type in the future.
