Editor,
As a veteran, I found Brian Fejer's letter in the Aug. 23 Daily Lobo interesting to say the least, though it's obvious that he has never served in any of the U.S. armed forces. If he had, he would understand that the populations of these organizations have the same demographics as the population of the U.S. as a whole.
While I myself am frustrated by U.S. foreign policy, we should focus our frustrations on the ones that dictate policy, not the ones that are forced to carry out these policies, facing possible imprisonment for dereliction of the duty they volunteered for.
The men and women serving in the Middle East are your next door neighbors, teachers and people that you meet in everyday life. While it's possible that some of those people could be bigots or drug addicts, the majority are professionals that are there to do a job, get paid and eventually go home to their families with a minimum of injuries and hopefully the ability to sleep at night.
