Editor,
Of course we have to support the troops - the government is broke.
I come from a military family. My brother-in-law just returned from Iraq. In 2002, we lost a very close friend in the war on terror, as Bush has called it. I wasn't trying to slag the troops. I was trying to slag these kids talking on their iPods.
Do U.S. forces really believe that all Americans are sacrificing for the wars? Is Iraq a democracy or a theocracy? Is Iraq in a civil war? Aren't the majority of foreign fighters U.S. troops? Why are we borrowing $6 billion a month from China to pay for Iraq?
Members of the U.S. armed forces take an oath to protect and defend the U.S. Constitution. What are they going to do about Bush's more than 800 signing statements, giving himself the authority to ignore laws passed by the legislature?
I just don't understand why the troops, who are brave and noble, can't stand up in loud protest against a corrupt government. What is everyone so afraid of?
