Letter: Christians who judge gays ignore other parts of Bible

Editor,

Some of the Christians that want to educate gays on the Bible could use a bit of educating themselves. For centuries, people have picked out the parts of the Bible that they want to pay attention to and ignore the rest. Some Christians have chosen to take Leviticus' supposed ban on homosexuality and ignore its rule against eating shellfish. Many sins of the Bible that were once held as hell-worthy are now deemed as archaic and are no longer followed.

I think it's really sweet that Christians don't hate us. Most just think we are going to hell because we love someone of the same sex.

So here is some education from the other side. First, being gay is not a choice. Ask anyone who has been kicked out of their home or gay-bashed if they really wanted to choose that life. Second, if you think you take a lot of heat for being Christian, try to imagine being gay. People don't lean out of their cars and yell God-lover at you as they drive by, like they yell dyke and fag to my friends and me. Third, I can't imagine a God who would send someone to hell because he or she loved someone else. Being gay isn't about perversion or sexual deviance, it's about love.

The next time you want to be a teacher, try being a student first.
