Editor,
In response to David Gonzalez's letter on Monday, he is right - there is a real problem when a specific group of people is picked out for discrimination. However, there are far more people than just those who claim to be Christians that discriminate against the gay community. By only mentioning the religious community in his letter, Gonzalez is guilty of discrimination, too.
Discrimination is considered wrong in America and it is certainly not Christian. Any person who has studied the Bible knows that this is not a behavior that would ever be approved of, and though the Bible does instruct that homosexuality is a sin, it does not justify anything remotely similar to discrimination against any such people. Another fallacy in Gonzalez's argument was that he likened discrimination against gay men and lesbians to that of African-Americans and American Indians, claiming, "It's the same concept." That is inaccurate. Race is a born identity, whereas sexual preference is a learned or chosen behavior.
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I would suggest that Gonzalez discontinue his discriminatory attitude toward Christians if he wishes to be treated as he desires. Does God hate homosexuality? Yes, but he loves homosexuals.
