Editor,
In response to the question of the week about smoking in Friday's issue of the Daily Lobo, I wonder if anyone asked Alex Hansell what she thought of African-Americans, gay people, Jews, skateboarders, cyclists and people who don't speak English. I just want to know if her bigotry is limited to people who smoke, or if it's a general hatred of traits that are different from her own.
It is really unfortunate that we are letting a personal choice like smoking be removed from the concept of personal liberty. While we're at it, can we start making lists of things we don't like and slowly get rid of them?
There are a lot of other pressing, important issues to discuss, such as skateboarders on
campus, people who walk their dogs - imagine what excretion does to the air we breathe - and the golf carts on campus, which pose both physical and environmental hazards.
Maybe we don't have to get rid of smokers completely. We can just put them to the side and pretend they aren't there. They will be able to smoke peacefully amongst themselves, and we can pretend to be giving them a choice. Great suggestion. With this in mind, I think it would be a good idea to get totally back to segregation of all forms. I'm not digging this whole diverse, people-being-different thing.

Apparently, a lot of other people at UNM also feel the same way. So, let's band together and make decisions for everyone else and completely dismiss the concepts of personal choice and responsibility.
