Letter: University lacks integrity for weapons involvement

In Dean Vera Norwood's letter to the Daily Lobo on Friday, she stated that there was adequate opportunity for the public to comment on UNM's involvement with nuclear weapons and other issues brought up at the meeting where Robert Anderson was arrested. However, she does not mention that there were no knowledgeable people on the panel who held a view different to that of the industrial weapons complex.

I believe that it is the role of the University to debate whether or not we should spend billions of dollars replacing our nuclear weapons stockpile with the latest models produced by already-flush weapons contractors, rather than to promote the idea of building more nuclear bombs. UNM's administration showed a lack of integrity when it allowed corporations to use UNM space to promote nuclear weapons, and it was rightly protested.
