Letter: Euphemisms help justify aborting human beings

Editor,

It is time to call a spade a spade. An abortion kills a developing human being. Anybody who tells you different is either lying or completely misinformed. At the moment of conception, a new human life has begun. While the destiny of that fertilized egg is unknown, there is no doubt whatsoever that it is a human being.

The human element is downplayed with terms such as zygote, embryo and fetus. These are medical terms turned into euphemisms to help people sleep better at night. We also hear about reproductive rights and the slogan "my body, my choice." Don't let any of this fool you - these terms and sayings are only there to justify killing.

You are either pro-life or pro-choice - there is no alternative. Either you believe that it is OK to kill an unborn child, or you believe that it is wrong. There is not a gray area or middle ground that exists between the two. People who are pro-life understand this fully, while people who are pro-choice seem to have a difficult time with this.

I often hear people say they are against abortions and would never get one, but that some women might have a reason and should be able to. Ideas like that usually come from people claiming to be in the nonexistent middle ground. These people are either confused or afraid to admit their stance.

Therefore, I encourage everyone to at least have the courage to stand up and pick what side they are on. Don't stand inside the imaginary gray area trying to make everyone happy, because you are not fooling anyone other than yourself. Obviously, I am proud to be pro-life.

Finally, given all of society's ills, I'll leave you with the words of Mother Teresa: "If we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another?"
