UNM is an excellent institution of higher learning but is declining simply based on the fact that the neoconservative Republicans are cutting aid for students who are not among the entitled classes.
Cuts to education have occurred so that the wealthiest 2 percent of Americans can get tax cuts. Education has been a great equalizer in our country throughout its history, which is why the greedy
Republicans are trying to kill it. They are trying to destroy the middle class because they want no competition from knowledgeable workers or executives on how to run this country. This is unfortunate, because to compete in a global market, we'll need the best-educated workforce possible.
When cutbacks inevitably happen, I hope we preserve our teachers and graduate assistant jobs and make budget cuts in less important areas, such as overpaid administrators.
