Voting experience scary after seeing documentary

Editor,

Viewing Bev Harris' HBO documentary "Hacking Democracy" recently confirmed my worst fears - that a truly fair election where all votes are counted is not possible in the U.S. We are disenfranchised, and this is a dangerous precedent to set in our country.

It is my opinion that the corporations, CEOs, engineers, collaborating employees, contractors, politicians and political party employees or volunteers connected to election manipulation efforts should be tried in criminal court for fraud. Perhaps it is naive to think that our courts will work, for justice usually comes from the people and rarely the courts.

When I went to vote on Tuesday at the county building in downtown Santa Fe, it took more than 30 minutes for the poll workers to find the ballot. There were more than 50 people in a cramped hallway trying to get their ballots, and poll workers were trying to find a place for them to vote. It was very chaotic. I fed my ballot into the same scanner shown in the documentary. I undervoted, meaning that in some races, I refused to vote, because there was only one candidate. Perhaps the machine didn't count any vote I made on my ballot.

We have paper ballots, and our job as citizens is to see that the paper ballots are counted and not shredded. To not have an election auditor is disgusting. We cannot trust our government and the officials running the elections unless they are willing to go the distance for a recount at the state's expense. The question is, who will be held accountable for a corrupt system, and who will assure that officials do their job to protect a straightforward and candid recount

process?

Thank God for Harris and the many people around the country working to take back our election process.
