Editor,
The photo on the front page of Tuesday's Daily Lobo, "Pizza and plastic," was rather disturbing to me, due to the predatory nature of credit card pushers on and around campus.
Michael Unzueta and the other students pictured will surrender their personal information to the Citibank corporation. Chances are good that they will use that credit card to pay for future Papa John's pizzas during their time at UNM. Citibank will ply them with more credit card offers and use fear tactics to persuade them to pay for services promising things such as identity theft protection and the like. Those students will apply for and receive more credit cards to supplement their student loan-based income when they've maxed out the first wave of credit but still need pizza to survive.
Many such students will enter the work force drowning in debt, and they will still be paying for those post-party munchies well into their post-college careers, probably at 59 percent interest.
But, dude, that $3,000 medium pie with black olives and pepperoni was such a sweet deal.
