Editor,
Within a year, I will be a U.S. citizen. Even though citizenship bestows many wonderful benefits on its recipients, I feel somewhat hesitant about becoming a citizen. First, I feel embarrassed by this country's proclivity toward an ever-increasing waistline. Nearly two-thirds of American adults are either overweight or obese, but I will try to stay in good shape.
Also, it seems that America has a history of environmental hostility, as reflected by the fact that it accounts for about 25 percent of the world's auto emissions. Furthermore, I strongly oppose abortion, regardless of what the woman's excuse might be.
America is truly a great country for giving me what my native Mexico did not - an opportunity to attain a formal education at a very affordable price. However, this remarkable country has many problems that can best be resolved by turning our hearts toward the admirable light of Jesus Christ. Everyone was created by Him and for Him. It is my personal conviction that He is the only one worthy of our worship. Let America bless God for a change.
