PIRG encourages students to be responsible citizens

I'm writing in response to the Daily Lobo article on Monday, "Students aim to start campus PIRG chapter." It seems to me that an organization that registers students to vote, helps inform them and then gets them out to the polls on Election Day is helping UNM students become responsible citizens. This seems to directly reflect the mission of the University, "UNM will provide students the values, habits of mind, knowledge and skills that they need to be enlightened citizens," which is the mission provided in the 2006-07 UNM Catalog. I think that NMPIRG will continue to network across the campus to involve everyone that wants to be involved.
