Editor,
I am writing in response to the letter published Tuesday about the ASUNM Facebook.com group page. As I read the article, I couldn't help but feel responsible for the misunderstanding. The reason I feel responsible is because I was the one who created the page back in 2004. Since then, I have been a senator and vice president of ASUNM. During my tenure, I invited a few friends from ASUNM to join and mess around outside of normal business. The basic information on the page is a joke, including the very unofficial motto of the page, "Real money, fake government." Another thing some readers may have missed were the officer titles, which included "UFO Defense Ministry," "#1 Mohawk Guy" and "Ultimate Party Planner." Obviously, these have absolutely nothing to do with ASUNM, its financial process or the professional demeanor of any of the hardworking and motivated individuals in student government.
Since Tuesday, I have erased the content of the just-for-fun group and passed the administrative capabilities to the current leadership of ASUNM.
To be fair, I can see why a few students who viewed this page could be confused about what they were seeing. To be fair to ASUNM, it has allocated hundreds of thousands of dollars for student organizations over the years, and from personal experience, I know it is very real. Furthermore, ASUNM has a very developed and professional operation that I encourage every student to become more
familiar with.
I personally apologize on behalf of ASUNM for the misunderstanding. I am no longer an officer in ASUNM, so if anything, be frustrated with me and not its current members. They are hardworking and always hold students and student fees in the absolute highest regard.

If you have any questions or insecurities about the ASUNM process, please go to the real Web site at Unm.edu/~asunm. If that is not enough, try asking me some questions about my experiences at ASUNM. I'll be on Facebook.
