Editor,
Many UNM employees who didn't come to work on Wednesday due to the snowstorm discovered they would be docked eight hours of annual leave, even though the University was officially open for only five hours.
This amounts to a take-back of three hours of pay for each employee who couldn't make it to work that day. CNM announced its closing well in advance and remained closed all day. APS was also closed. Due to numerous accidents, the police discouraged travel in the Albuquerque metro area. Yet, UNM employees were subjected to changing snow day schedules and then penalized for being absent during a time when the University was not officially open.
How much did the University save by docking these employees, and what does it plan to do with that money?
