Editor,
Once again, the ASUNM elections are upon us, and soon, we will be forced to run the gauntlet between the SUB and Zimmerman Library. Every year, we're faced with this, and every year, it's the same thing - pretty girls handing out free candy and promises of change at UNM. And every year, nothing happens. I have seen almost no change except for higher fees and an embarrassing ASUNM Senate attempt to subpoena the Daily Lobo editor in chief back in 2005 - that was good for a laugh.
So this year, I ask, will it be any different? I would certainly hope so, but more than likely not. I won't be surprised if there's a low voter turnout - with or without online voting - because most students probably don't care enough. So, to my fellow students, I wish you luck Wednesday. If you do decide to vote, don't be surprised when the party promising a golden utopia doesn't do anything. I've been here too long not to know - no matter what the parties promise, and no matter who you vote for and who wins, no major changes come about.
