Troops in Iraq contribute to unnecessary suffering

Editor,

Gunmen shot and killed 23 members of an ancient religious sect in northern Iraq on Sunday after stopping their bus and separating out followers of other faiths, while at least 20 people were killed in car bombings in the capital.

Just a typical day in Iraq, where the administration in Washington, D.C., keeps assuring us that "conditions are improving" and "progress is being made toward a peaceful resolution."

Am I the only one who is tired of being lied to, and whose heart is getting heavier every day from the knowledge that I am contributing to the suffering of the people of Iraq, which they are being forced to endure because of the continued presence of our troops in their country?

There has to be something I can do to help stop all the needless and unproductive loss of life - and quality of life - that our presence in Iraq has inflicted on these helpless and hapless people. So far, I have not been able to determine what that something is. Can somebody help with this?
