Editor,
Among the several unnecessary and unapproved changes made to the letter of mine printed last week, the most egregious resulted in conveying a sentiment I did not intend. The Daily Lobo printed UNM "should be firm in not hiring administrators who are trained torturers." The letter I originally submitted said "administrators who have trained torturers." My construction clearly alluded to former President Louis Caldera's aforementioned stint overseeing the School of the Americas. The derisive words
unfairly attributed to me seem to apply a very inaccurate label to the current and past University leadership. This was not my intention.
The Daily Lobo should give letter writers the chance to sign off on all substantive changes before going to press. It does not feel good to have somebody else's incendiary words tainting one's good name.
