N.M. population growth puts strain on resources

Editor,

The state of New Mexico has reached a new all-time population high, and it doesn't have to deal with outrageous temperatures instigated by global warming. We have 2 million people within our borders that need proper access to water, land, food, shelter, health care and other established universal human rights. Unsustainable population levels strain the limited resources we have, especially water, but no one seems to be concerned. In fact, the milestone was reached probably sometime last year and is just now being brought to the attention of the public. People of the state need to recognize its limited carrying capacity and help promote a sustainable population growth through their own practices and what they are teaching to their children. Let the Land of Enchantment hold onto whatever glory it has left after hundreds of years of colonization so that we don't become the Land of Encrampment.
