Religion causes problems; gay people aren't to blame

Editor,

There is so much wrong in Daniel Martinez's letter published in the Daily Lobo on Tuesday, it's hard to figure out where to start. First of all, I would like to know what God you worship, Martinez, because he is one cruel mother. Your God seems to be incredibly hateful and irrational, too. Not to mention really dumb.

What is he, your roommate or something? I hate to bring this up, but God didn't write the Bible - people did. Same with the Quran and the Torah. The God I know has nothing whatsoever to do with any of man's moronic religions. It is truly religion itself that is responsible for so much intolerance, ignorance and injustice in the world - not homosexuals.

You seem to be implying that your cruel and idiotic God spends most of his time punishing gay people along with innocent people

who happen to simply live near gay people. If God created everyone in his image, didn't he also create homosexuals? How do you explain that? Are you calling God incompetent?

You know what I've found, and this view is backed up by facts: Most people who rant and rave about how wrong homosexuality is are actually closet gays themselves. Look at all the family-first Republicans who consistently vote against gay rights, for instance. Many of those supposedly fine, upstanding and moral citizens turn out to be hard-core homosexuals and pedophiles themselves. Why do you think that is? And the fact that there is no cure for AIDS confirms your trust in your God? Man, that's sick. Here's something to chew on: If your God is so forgiving, why don't you try to emulate him? Don't you think your God would appreciate that?

Nothing about our society is moral by any stretch of the imagination. Frankly, homosexuality is the least of my concerns at this point in time. Why doesn't your God wipe out Washington, D.C., if he is so vengeful and righteous? It seems like that would be the place to start if he really wants to get the job done. Or how about Hollywood? Lots and lots of homosexuals live there, too. Why doesn't he wipe that cesspool of mediocrity off the map? I would actually support that myself. No more crappy gay movies. No more crappy gay TV shows. No more crappy gay music. Now that would be righteous.
