Head coach Jeff Nelson said the large crowd - 1,083 fans for Jam Johnson night - motivated the Lobos to win the match.

"The crowd has been awesome all year," he said. "We have a great fan base. We have a lot of young kids out, a lot of students, and an older group, too. They've helped us a lot, and tonight was no exception - especially late in the match."

Lisa Meeter recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 14 kills and 16 digs.

Meeter said the team played an all-around good match.

"We all played awesome," she said. "We had some good

blocking, defense and hitting. The setters put the ball where we needed it. So, really, it was a team

effort."

Jeanne Fairchild paced the Lobos with 17 kills. She leads the MWC in kills, averaging 4.68 per game.

Gayle Tripp added 20 digs. She is fourth in the MWC in digs with 4.45 per game.

Tripp said she had something to prove against the Cowgirls.

"I had a rough week at practice," she said. "I don't think I played my best against CSU last week, either. So, I was really determined, no matter what it took. I have been playing really tense, and so when I loosened up, I started playing a lot better."

UNM travels to No. 15 San Diego today to conclude its nonconference schedule.

Fairchild, who played for the Toreros her freshman season, said she is eager for the reunion.

"It's going to be really exciting," she said. "I'm looking forward to a really good competition, seeing some familiar faces and playing some good volleyball."

Tripp said the Lobos will play with full effort against the

nationally ranked Toreros.

"We honestly have nothing to be afraid of," she said. "The pressure is on them. They are the ranked team. We have absolutely nothing to lose, and we are going to give it all we've got."
