The Lobos pummeled the Air Force Falcons on Sunday at the UNM Soccer Complex with a 6-0 win - a margin of victory UNM hasn't seen since 1994.

Lobo forward Justin Davis pitched in two goals for UNM.

Davis said the Lobos scored their first goal and didn't look back.

"I don't know what it was," he said. "We just came out, and we got the first one and just started to follow through."

Within the first 18 minutes, the Lobos scored three goals. Defense was solid Sunday, keeping the Falcon offense at bay.

Early in the second half, the Lobos added two goals to their tally, allowing UNM head coach Jeremy Fishbein to empty the bench onto the field.

UNM defender Mike Porter said the early lead alleviated stress for the rest of the team.

"Once the offense can score three goals like we did in a matter of five minutes - I think it takes the pressure off of everyone," he said. "From that point on, the game just seems pretty easy."

Friday's UNM offense did not resemble the one that exploded on Sunday. The Lobos played Denver on Friday and did not score until the second half of the game. About 20 minutes later, Denver scored a goal, and the two teams ended the game entangled in a 1-1 tie.

Fishbein said his team responded well to Friday's disappointing game.

"We expect a lot out of our team, and we've just got to keep having maturity in big games," he said.

This season, the Lobos are 6-3-1. With eight matches left to play and an ever-improving offense, Lobo fans should expect more success, Fishbein said.

"Our guys expect to win," he said. "It's a proud team. They're very disappointed with Friday's result, so it was a good win today."

Porter said having a few goals in the first half of the game may have helped the team notch the shutout, but the victory shouldn't be treated as a big surprise.

"I think we're capable of this every game," Porter said. "It's just a matter of having things click for us and getting the breaks and stuff."
