Editor,
Throughout the summer, several buildings on campus received renovations. However, Friday afternoon, I walked through Mitchell Hall and thought it was one of the most neglected buildings on campus. There was some graffiti on one of the clocks and on one of the handrails; the paint looked old; the water fountains were rusty, old and had those mossy formations on them; and the floor tiles desperately needed to be replaced. I asked myself, "Why has this building been overlooked for such a long time?"
Here's a wild and crazy idea: Instead of paying the UNM president and basketball coach nearly $1.5 million, how about using some of that money to renovate the most neglected buildings on campus, such as Mitchell Hall? First impressions are crucial, and when visitors come to the UNM campus, they should be satisfied with the general appearance of the buildings.
