Scooters on campus leave students in European dust

Editor,

One cannot help but notice the addition of motor scooters to the ebb and flow of traffic around campus. Many people I have conversed with are of the opinion that these rather chic-looking vehicles are a nuisance and should be banned.

However, I say nay - let the scooters stay. They add a Parisian flavor to our modest desert town, a distinctly urban form of noise and haughtiness that carries with it the future of UNM and Albuquerque at large. Our Southwestern sensibilities need not stand in the way of modern European tradition. I therefore implore the people of UNM to leer, wave and shout, "Ciao, bella" at the scooters as they leave you in their wonderfully European dust. Perhaps, ASUNM would be so kind as to lobby for a change of mascot so as to reflect UNM's new French identity.
