UNM Police abuse power, make the roads less safe

Editor,

I was almost run into by a UNM Police vehicle Saturday while driving south on I-25 near the Osuna Road/San Mateo Boulevard ramp. A police cruiser almost took my front end off when it decided it was going to merge into oncoming traffic as it, along with another cruiser, escorted two private Herrera Coaches down the freeway.

After almost causing an accident with my car, it nearly ran at least three other vehicles off the road as the cruiser made way for the coaches to move from the on-ramp to the far left lane.

As I continued my journey south on I-25, the coaches and the two police cars created traffic problems again when they suddenly crossed three lanes of traffic to exit at Gibson Boulevard. As they made their way up Gibson Boulevard toward University Boulevard, they made even more people pile up as they blared their sirens to make sure that the private coaches could reach their destination. Why are UNM police escorting private coaches? Why are UNM police driving at excessive speeds? Why do they need to be in the left lane and cause traffic issues? Why am I paying for this abuse of power?
