Christian Coalition values the dollar over religion

Editor,

The Republican Party and church leaders abandoned the faithful for greed and power. I am a born-again Christian who followed my religious leaders into the Republican Party, because they said results were not only possible but probable.

Abortion is a criminal act that kills hundreds of thousands of children every year, and our church and Republican leaders demanded devout Christians vote for the party that would end this practice. I followed the Republicans, but it is obvious that their intention was to co-opt my support for greed. For years, I came across information proving money was the foundation of Republican desires, but I chose to remain blind to what now seems obvious.

President Bush did not introduce a constitutional amendment to end abortion or protect marriage when he was re-elected. Instead, he cut taxes on dividends, tried to eliminate the estate tax and tried to privatize Social Security. Where were the family values in his agenda?

Now, our religious leaders are abandoning the values they demanded we support through our votes and our actions. Pat Robertson, the founder of the Christian Coalition, said New York City was attacked because it accepts the immoral gay lifestyle. Robertson now supports Rudolph Giuliani, a man who defends abortion and gay rights. The actions of Robertson violate what the Christian Coalition demanded of its followers, and this transgression can only be explained by greed.

There is a Republican in the race who is a staunch opponent of abortion and gay rights, but he speaks of poverty. Mike Huckabee is a man who will fight for Christians, but his dedication to poverty, which is demanded by Christ, could reduce Robertson's wealth.
