Climate change letter was intended to incite conflict

Editor,

I would like to commend Dennis Kinzler on one of the finest examples of trolling I have ever seen in the Daily Lobo. For those who don't know the term "trolling," it refers to the practice of posting an intentionally incendiary missive to an Internet message board in order to provoke a hostile response.

Kinzler is clearly a past master of this technique. His letter published in the Daily Lobo on Tuesday had it all: awful misunderstanding of a natural process - isostasy, in this case; digs at the academic elite; citation of a nonacademic Web site; and more. Truly, it was a magnum opus of provocative nonsense.

I fully expect much feeding of the trolls in these pages over the next few days, excoriating Kinzler on his points. What these well-meaning writers won't realize is that they've been had, and Kinzler is just kidding to push their buttons. I mean, he has got to be kidding, right?
