Discussion on Middle East one-sided against Israel

Editor,

I am an Israeli student here at UNM. I was very excited when I heard about the talk on the Middle East. Sadly, it turned out to be no more than propaganda filled with the lambasting of Israel by two highly educated women.

To me, Hagit Ra'anan was only there for show. I wondered what would be written about this talk in the Daily Lobo and was immediately confronted with the ludicrous statement that before the creation of

Israel, this was a peaceful region.

Certainly, the 1929 and 1939 riots in Hebron - a holy city for Jews and one that has had a Jewish population since antiquity - that decimated the Jewish population there could hardly be called peaceful.

As an Israeli and a Lobo, I am extremely perturbed over the decision by professor Carole Nagengast to use this blatantly one-sided group as a way of providing this "absolutely critical part of her students' education."
