Editor,
As a UNM student and a member of the UNM community, I was severely disappointed to learn that the North Golf Course may soon no longer be an open space. I cannot begin to express how important the golf course is, not only to families living in the area, but to UNM students and many Albuquerque residents. Jefferson Middle School frequently uses the golf course for track practice, and several UNM athletes do the same. For members of the community, it represents the last patch of undeveloped land in the area. Losing this land would be a true tragedy. I certainly hope President David Schmidly and the Board of Regents will become enlightened to the irreplaceable value of the golf course and choose to leave it undeveloped.
