Editor,
OK, so the ignorance of equating Darwin's writing to the Bible and Quran while also denigrating Islam made Dennis Kinzler's ideas out to be the ranting of a fool. But in Monday's Daily Lobo, he outdid himself.
I'm not sure what NASA reports he looked at, but a casual Google search confirmed that NASA - I was looking at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, which may be the source of confusion - has, among other articles, one titled "Arctic Ice Meltdown Continues With Significantly Reduced Winter Ice Cover." Any decent points made anywhere in Kinzler's letter - and I'm not saying there may not have been some - were obviated by the fifth paragraph wherein he misunderstood a basic principle of tectonic geology and extrapolated it to state that rock, specifically Scandinavian rock, floats in sea water.
I'm not sure Donald Blanchard would appreciate his information to be used by the stunning wit of Kinzler to state such idiocy. I'm sure Blanchard would not say a significant rise in sea level would create higher, drier coastal areas. To be fair, maybe Kinzler does not understand the difference between the Earth's mantle and the sea, but he could conduct his own "basic science classes" and set sail on a big slab of Scandinavian rock. I'll be there to offer him a towel to dry off his wet pride and less-buoyant intellect.
