Udall's views on education make him a great candidate

Editor,

Have you ever been so excited about something that you had butterflies in your stomach? This is exactly how I feel when I think about Rep. Tom Udall running for the U.S. Senate. The butterflies in my stomach start to flutter, and I can't push back the excitement. I will attempt to explain why I get this feeling about Udall, but there are so many reasons that he would make a good senator and help New Mexico. So, I definitely won't be able to list them all here.

But I will start with one of the things that is important to me as a lifelong New Mexican. As a former student of APS and a current student at UNM, I understand the importance of education here in New Mexico. And luckily for me and other students, Udall does, too. He has worked to make sure higher education is easily available to

everyone, regardless of race, class or other obstacles. He even worked to get the College Cost Reduction Act passed, which helps students save thousands of dollars on their student loans. Any student or parent who has had to pay for school knows how important this is.

Higher education is not the only thing Udall has helped to improve in his time in Congress. He also understands the importance of quality education right from the beginning, just as we all do. I am so excited to see what more Udall can do when he becomes one of our senators. I know he will continue his hard work on education, as well as work toward preserving New Mexico's unique environment, supporting New Mexico's soldiers and veterans, providing high-quality health care for New Mexicans and fighting for the rights of American Indians, Hispanics and all New Mexicans.
