Gay adopters should be treated like everyone else

Editor,

Gay adoptions are discriminated against. This needs to stop. There's no reason for it. People are adopting all over the U.S., but not all of them are treated with the same respect.

With some, the adoptions run smoothly and quickly, while others run into roadblocks and setbacks. All adoptions need to be treated equally. There is no reason for people to treat gay adoptions badly. It's still an adoption with one or two parents. It's not easy when everyone is against you and not helping. They either just watch you suffer or deliberately try to stop you from doing it.

Something needs to be done about this. If everyone was better educated about gay adoptions, they wouldn't continue to see them as wrong. It's extremely important to educate people about this because there are major setbacks gays go through when trying to adopt.

Once everyone accepts it, gays could be more open and get a chance to adopt a child or children with the help of agencies who attend to gays with just as much compassion and kindness as everyone else receives.

If our community took a stand against homophobia and fully supported gays who wanted to adopt, then a difference could be made. Legislators could propose that no discrimination is to be made against adopting families. Then, agencies would have to treat everyone equally regardless of their gender preference.
