Violent television threatens moral development of kids

Editor,

I feel television is having a big impact on our culture and society. The violence on television is increasing at such an alarming rate that I am concerned for children who watch it. Every time I sit down and watch television with my 5-year-old sister, I am alarmed at the content being shown.

Television networks should take action with regard to what is being shown on their channels. Parents should also monitor what their children are watching.

Sitting down and watching what their children are viewing can sometimes make the biggest difference. Sometimes, grown-ups don't even need to sit down with their children. Simply asking a child about his or her favorite television program will give an insight into what he or she is watching.

I worked at Parks and Recreation for almost a year, and children need to be taught right from wrong. Honestly, I fear the day when television is the only thing teaching children moral values.
