Track and Field

Distance runner Lee Emanuel had a standout race Friday, breaking the UNM record for the men's mile, clocking a time of 4:02.47. Emanuel broke a 24-year-old record set by Ibrahim Hussein by 1.74 seconds. Emanuel - a junior transfer from Hastings, England - finished eighth overall and sixth among college runners at Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational.

In women's long jump, Sandy Fortner set a career-best mark with a distance of 19-8, which is three inches shy of the school record. Fortner won the event at Friday's Don Barrett Air Force Open. Her jump is best mark this season in the Mountain West Conference.

Women's basketball

The UNM women's basketball team couldn't keep up with Wyoming on Saturday, falling 70-55 in Laramie.

Jodi Bolerjack led the Cowgirls with 17 points and four assists while Dominique Sisk added 11 points and seven rebounds.

Brandi Kimble scored eight points and 11 rebounds for the Lobos. Dionne Marsh added nine points and grabbed five rebounds but played limited minutes because of foul trouble.

UNM falls to 12-10 overall and 4-5 in the Mountain West Conference. Wyoming improved to 19-3 overall and 7-2 in conference.

Softball

The UNM softball team won its first series of the season, taking two-of-three games from Evansville in Albuquerque this weekend. The Lobos won the first game of Saturday's doubleheader 4-1. They dropped the second game 10-4 before winning Sunday's finale 9-1.

Senior pitcher Kelly Ninemire picked up the win in Saturday's first game with a complete game. She struck out eight while giving up just one run on five hits. Freshman Kyla Nelson pitched the second game and gave up four runs on nine hits on two walks.

Nelson bounced back strong in Sunday's win, allowing just one unearned run on two hits.

Men's tennis

The Lobos defeated Middle Tennessee 4-3 on Friday to improve to 2-3 on the season. UNM swept the doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Max Jones, Johnny Parkes and Chris Parkes earned the three singles points to clinch the win for the Lobos.
